The opening ceremony celebrated the first world fair to be held in the Middle East, featuring fantastic fireworks displays, music and communicating the core Expo 2020 themes of global collaboration, mobility and sustainability.
Members of the public could view the spectacular ceremony on special projected screens in public spaces across the UAE, watching visual spectacles, performances from dancers and stars including Andrea Bocelli, Ellie Goulding, Lang Lang and Mohammed Abdu.
What is Expo 2020?
Expo 2020 is a global event, attracting residents, schoolchildren, businesses and tourists with exhibitions from countries and corporations worldwide. The event will boost trade and tourism in the UAE, showcasing what the country has to offer and encouraging global investment across 3 distinct Sustainability, Mobility and Opportunity Districts
Exhibition spaces, public spaces and unique pavilions have been designed and constructed from scratch, building on a dedicated 1.7sq mile area of open desert outside Downtown Dubai. The UAE has invested heavily in infrastructure, including a dedicated extension to the Dubai Metro system, ensuring that the site is not only easily accessible but also meets with the Expo 2020 sustainable movement themes and goals
Many countries have established a presence at Expo 2020. As well as the UAE’s exceptional Calatrava-designed UAE Pavilion, bespoke pavilions have been designed and constructed by countries including Singapore, Saudi Arabia, UK, Qatar, Japan and New Zealand. Corporations and other groups exhibiting at Expo 2020 include Emirates, Gulf Cooperation Council and the World Expo Museum Pavilion.
Omnium International’s work at Expo 2020
Omnium International has been closely involved with the development of the Expo 2020 site since its inception. Appointed by Expo 2020, we have provided Cost Consultancy and Quantity Surveying services to signature Pavilions, Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion and Alif – The Mobility Pavilion.
Our team was further appointed by Calatrava International to deliver concept Cost Consultancy services for the UAE Pavilion, designed to represent a falcon in flight and featuring a unique roof wing opening system that is architecturally notable and visually exceptional.
Calatrava International also appointed Omnium to deliver Contract Administration services for the Qatar Pavilion, delivered in just five months, and we provided Cost Consultancy services to the Emirates Pavilion and Expo Mall elsewhere on site.
Omnium International’s team, led by Director Kieran Duckworth and including a large on-site team of quantity surveyors enjoying excellent understanding and experience of unique projects, is delighted to have played a part in bringing Expo 2020 to life, featuring Dubai and the UAE on a truly global stage.
