Sustainability was a key focus for Dubai’s Expo 2020. In a world where climate change is on everyone’s agenda, Expo truly placed issues surrounding the protection and preservation of the environment on a global stage. Terra - The Sustainability Pavilion, with an internal floor area of 17,000m sq, was designed by renowned Eden Project architects Grimshaw and enabled Expo conversations that addressed how we can learn from nature, manage resources effectively and protect the earth’s ecosystems. The design of sustainable environments and the use of innovation to promote environmental care is beautifully illustrated by Grimshaw’s unique Signature Pavilion structure, with a legacy Science Exploratorium that is inspiring the next generation.
Omnium was delighted to support Emaar and Expo 2020 in the development of Terra - The Sustainability Pavilion. With environmental issues a central Expo theme, this Signature Pavilion project was of great significance to the event and its legacy, and Omnium is proud to have delivered unique expertise that resulted in an exceptional space.
Expo 2020 appointed Omnium as Cost Consultants to both Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion and Alif – The Mobiilty Pavilion which, along with our support for Santiago Calatrava on the UAE Pavilion, demonstrated the breadth and depth of our expertise in handling unique projects. Managing Director Nicholas Harris’ relationships with the Expo 2020 and Emaar teams enabled us to showcase how we add exceptional value through our pre and post contract Cost Consultancy services, and Nicholas took a lead in the delivery of Omnium’s value engineering, strategic and procurement advice to ensure that Terra - The Sustainability Pavilion became a worldwide focal point for environmental awareness.
Working alongside Emaar Properties, Expo 2020 and Grimshaw Architects, Omnium’s niche regional expertise was applied effectively on Terra - The Sustainability Pavilion. We advised on the unique environmental conditions in the region which affected how the Pavilion is constructed, ensuring that the building met its net zero energy target, water usage targets and, above all, achieved Platinum LEED status to make it one of the largest and most prominent buildings in the world with such an award. Our work encompassed advising on the construction aspects of the Pavilion itself, together with the surrounding gardens and pathways, that facilitated crucial conversations during Expo on long-term global sustainability.
Terra – The Sustainability Pavilion – at Expo 2020 was designed by renowned international architects Grimshaw to support the promotion of issues such as the management of natural resources, learning from nature and the protection of ecosystems.
