Expo 2020, Terra - The Sustainability Pavilion

Sustainability is a key focus for Dubai’s Expo 2020. In a world where climate change is on everyone’s agenda, Expo will truly place issues surrounding the protection and preservation of the environment on a global stage. The Sustainability Pavilion, with an internal floor area of 17,000m sq, has been designed by renowned Eden Project architects Grimshaw and will enable Expo conversations that address how we can learn from nature, manage resources effectively and protect the earth’s ecosystems. The design of sustainable environments and the use of innovation to promote environmental care is beautifully illustrated by Grimshaw’s unique Pavilion structure, with a legacy Science Exploratorium that will inspire the next generation.

We are delighted to support Emaar and Expo 2020 in the development of the Sustainability Pavilion. With environmental issues a clear focus for Expo, this project is of great significance to the event and its legacy, and Omnium is proud to deliver unique expertise that will result in an exceptional space.

The Brief

Expo 2020 appointed Omnium as Cost Consultants to both the Sustainability Pavilion and the Mobility Pavilion on the Expo site. We are proud to be associated with both Signature Pavilions, which along with our support for Santiago Calatrava on the UAE Pavilion demonstrates the breadth and depth of our expertise in handling unique projects. Managing Director Nicholas Harris’ relationships with the Expo 2020 and Emaar teams have enabled us to showcase how we add exceptional value through our pre and post contract QS services, and Nicholas now leads the delivery of Omnium’s value engineering, strategic and procurement advice to ensure that the Sustainability Pavilion becomes a worldwide focal point for environmental awareness.

Omnium’s Experience

Working alongside Emaar Properties, Expo 2020 and Grimshaw Architects, Omnium’s team’s niche regional expertise is applied highly effectively on the Sustainability Pavilion. We have advised on the unique environmental conditions in the region which will affect how the Pavilion is constructed, ensuring that the building meets its target of net zero energy, water usage targets and, above all, achieves Platinum LEED status to make it one of the largest and most prominent buildings in the world with such an award. Our work encompasses advising on the construction aspects of the Pavilion itself, together with the surrounding gardens and pathways that will facilitate crucial conversations during Expo on long-term global sustainability.
