Home / Omnium Projects / Expo 2020, Alif – The Mobility Pavilion
Hosted in Dubai in the Expo City district, one of Expo 2020’s main themes was the issue of mobility: how we move, explore and connect was central to Expo 2020’s desire to make a lasting difference to the region and the worldwide community. Alif - The Mobility Pavilion aimed to connect people, providing the opportunities and facilities to allow them to do business, collaborate and access knowledge, innovation and ideas which enabled regional and global communities to develop for the future. Designed by internationally recognised and respected architects Foster + Partners, Alif - The Mobility Pavilion occupies a 12,000 m. sq. plot with 4,000m. sq. of exhibition space which, following close of the Expo, has become home to unique, high-end office, education and exhibition spaces.
The Mobility Pavilion represented a key Expo 2020 theme. Omnium shares the values of innovation, knowledge and creating opportunity, and our Expo 2020 team was committed to delivering services that created a beautiful, practical and sustainable development.
Delivering pre and post contract QS services on Alif - The Mobility Pavilion, Omnium is delighted to have been involved not only in this project but in the provision of services to Expo 2020 on the Sustainability Pavilion and to architect Santiago Calatrava on the UAE Pavilion. Led by Director Nicholas Harris, Omnium’s team played a key role in the management of costs across all three Signature Pavilion projects, delivering each on budget and without compromise on their stunning designs. Alif - The Mobility Pavilion, a flowing trefoil-shaped structure, complements the Expo’s sub-theme of connections and movement and throughout construction, our team ensured that this core value of the project was reflected in its build.
Working closely in partnership with Emaar Properties, key developer for Expo 2020, and Foster + Partners, Omnium delivered expert QS services both within our regional Dubai branch office and onsite. Omnium’s large, UAE-based team fully supported the delivery of Expo 2020 throughout all stages, with Alif - The Mobility Pavilion no exception. Valuable Middle East experience enabled us to understand the challenges facing construction in this unique environment, and our excellent client relationships delivered an unparalleled consistency of service. We are incredibly proud to have been involved in the development of the exceptional Mobility Pavilion and the values it represents; Dubai’s dynamic community presents a perfect backdrop to this movement and connection-focused project.
Designed by Foster + Partners, the Mobility Pavilion promoted the importance of movement and connection amongst people during Expo 2020 before going on to become high-end office space.
Taking place in Dubai for the first time, Expo 2020 will place the UAE into a global spotlight during its 6-month duration. The Expo aims to facilitate collaboration and partnership working, addressing crucial issues such as sustainability and creating a lasting legacy for the region through forward-thinking development that will inform and educate future generations. With millions of visitors anticipated to access the Expo 2020 site, the event aims to deliver an inclusive and landmark Expo.
