In May 2020, our site team at One Za’abeel was proud to observe as the iconic ‘The Link’ bridge was successfully positioned between its two supporting towers. Over two nights, the structure was seamlessly pushed into place, connecting One Za’abeel’s impressive towers which stand either side of the Happiness Bridge in Dubai’s Za’abeel district.
Omnium International project One Za’abeel reaches significant milestone with positioning of Link Bridge
The Link will showcase the best of One Za’abeel, creating a panoramic sky concourse with 360 degree views and containing when completed Michelin starred restaurants, observation decks, an infinity pool and an immersive visitor experience.
The world’s largest cantilevered structure, The Link is 210m long and spans an elevated six-lane carriageway below. The Link will soon be raised into its final position, over 100m above ground level. Fabrication and assembly of The Link has been undertaken off site to reduce the work required on site prior to positioning, comprising seven steel modules which have now been slid into position before being raised.
Intensive planning was required to ensure The Link could be moved into place within the project timescales and with minimal disruption to the area. Segments of The Link were moved from Tower A towards Tower B using heavy-duty strand jacks. A temporary ‘launching nose’ was assembled on top of One Za’abeel’s Tower A retail podium at level 4.
Developed by Ithra Dubai, construction of One Za’abeel commenced in 2017 and will see the creation of a new, impressive gateway to the Dubai International Financial Center area of the city on a site of prime real estate. When completed, this pioneering development is designed and specified to draw visitors through its luxury mixed-use offices, residences and leisure amenities, whilst taking a lead in sustainable development in the UAE.
Appointed Cost Consultants for the project, Omnium International’s team has been based on site since construction began, working closely with our client team and other contractors and stakeholders to deliver this challenging, unique and important structure.
